Breaking Barriers: How Your Energy Your Way Overcomes Traditional Solar and Heat Pump Challenges

leah57715

Are you one of those who think solar power or heat pumps won't work for your property? Perhaps you have an older building with historical value, a steeply pitched slate roof, or a flat roof that doesn’t seem suitable. There are some companies set up to do the straightforward installations, thankfully, at Your Energy Your Way, we have spent the last 7 years specialising in turning these challenges into opportunities, ensuring that where others say "no" we can say "yes".

The Prevalence of Misconceptions

A big obstacle to going solar or installing a heat pump is the many misconceptions surrounding these technologies. Have you heard the one about heat pumps not working in poorly insulated buildings, or solar panels not going on flat roofs?

Take, for example, the belief that only sloped roofs can accommodate solar panels. In reality, although the highest panel output does come at 35 degrees, you still get 90% of the benefit on a flat roof. And that is when the roof faces south. Did you know that if the panel faces east or west, the output is better with a flat roof panel, than if it were at the optimum angle?

Heat pumps are also effective in any building age; we have installed many heat pumps in buildings older than 100 years, leaving the homeowners happy and warm, with better levels of comfort than they had with their gas boilers. By partnering with a knowledgeable company, you can begin to dispel these myths and explore renewable options for your property.

Tailoring Solutions for Flat Roofs and Slate Roofs

Systems for flat roofs do need more space than those on pitched roofs. This is for two reasons:

  1. The panels are on a framework that puts the panels in a landscape orientation and at a 10 degree angle to the roof. This does mean that you need spaces between the panel rows so that the panels don't shade each other.

  2. We don't drill into your roof, but hold the panels on with ballast. This means that you have no fear of a leaky roof down the line, but it does also mean that we must leave a border between the panels and the edge of the roof because of wind lift.

On a slate roof you need special fixings to keep your roof watertight and beware of any installer that suggests drilling through the slates. Slates are very fragile and you can create hairline cracks that are not visible for some time.

These installations require precise planning and expert installation to take care of issues like orientation, shading and wind lift. But with the right planning these installation are possible. This adaptability means we can empower more properties than you might think.

Overcoming Historical Building Limitations

Integrating heat pumps into historic buildings presents its own challenges. Many fear that new technologies may compromise a building's original look and aren't powerful enough to keep the occupants warm.

However, our customers find that with careful planning and a sleek looking heat pump we can make sure that the aesthetic isn't compromised. We also ensure that with the right radiator and pipework upgrades, they go from a house which was boiling one minute and freezing the next to a home that is constantly comfortable.

Environmentally Friendly Outcomes

One of the most satisfying parts of our job is witnessing the positive impact of our work on the environment. By dismantling barriers to renewable energy, we are not just helping individual homeowners but also contributing to a larger movement toward sustainability.

Each solar panel installed and heat pump operated leads to less dependence on fossil fuels and lowers harmful emissions. Statistics show that simply replacing a gas boiler with a heat pump can reduce carbon emissions by 77% which translates into cleaner air for future generations. Heat pumps and solar and a battery is an especially powerful combination that translates to reduced energy bills and increased property value, creating a cycle of benefits for both the homeowner and the planet.
